2025 Annual Meeting – Recap
RECAP of the CSP Annual Membership Meeting on May 18th of 2025.
There were so many highlights this year ~ It was enjoyable to be able to work with the Sebastopol Art Center as one of our new North Bay Institutional Members in 2025. Having the opportunity to use the meeting spaces of our organizations that support us, helps connect the CSP to the local community and adds value to our working relationships with these members. In addition, we supported local businesses, Oliver’s Market (a local independent, and employee owned grocery store) who catered our lunch, and Sebastopol’s Barlow Taylor Lane Farms provided organic coffee. Thank you to our members for contributing an impressive morning potluck spread!

In addition to a BIG board election this season ~ There were fantastic presentations by our board directors, a fun & engaging Japanese papermaking demo by Michelle Wilson, where members were invited to make a sheet of kozo with Michelle.

There were insightful slideshow presentations from Robynn Smith and Margaret Niven, about their experiences in participating and hosting international art-focused group travel. Plus glimpses from our CSP’s 2024 AIR awardees, Kim Fink, Joanna Kidd, and Emily Kampa. [Concluded with the much anticipated] member print exchange!
All of our board members (including At-Large) stepped up since Karen could not be present. Huge thank you to Emily Kampa, for leading us online for our first virtual Zoom meeting. As I mentioned prior — The virtual video space makes a huge difference when all the officers are visually represented because it’s the one time per year that our members have the opportunity to connect and engage with the board directly to understand their roles.
CSP is a very special place, and it’s nice to lean into this community, especially now with the times we are living in. It’s been my experience over the last three years (since taking on this role) that members are more likely to renew their membership when they attend an annual meeting. Providing a general list of member benefits is one thing, but having that opportunity to connect in person, and share some good times with like-minded printmakers is priceless.

PRESENTERS
With great pleasure, we will be joined by Michelle Wilson as this year’s artist demonstration. Washi, or Japanese paper, often incorrectly referred to as rice paper, is known for its great strength while appearing delicate and gossamer-thin. Michelle will demonstrate some of the basics in the paper fiber, uses, and forming sheets in the traditional nagashizuki method.
World-traveling printmakers Margaret Niven and Robynn Smith will share their experiences leading and participating in international art-focused group travel. They’ll discuss various models of teaching, creating, and exploring abroad, offering insight into how travel can enrich artistic practice and community.
