Encaustic & Screen Print Monotype Workshop with Dana Harris Seeger
Workshop: All About Monotype
Dates: June 11 and 12, 2023
Times: 10am–2pm
Location: School of Visual Philosophy, San Jose, California
Instructor: Dana Harris Seeger
Discover multiple ways to create a one of a kind print using hot wax and screen printing in this fun 2 day class. During each 4 hour session, students will be introduced to multiple methods for creating a unique, transferred image. The first day will include the creation of encaustic monotypes using a hot plate, beeswax, pigment and paper. The second day, students will learn the process of monotype screen printing using a silkscreen as a matrix for a transferred image.
The Encaustic Monotype method uses the principles of encaustic painting combined with the indirect image making process of printmaking. Participants will have the opportunity to create images on a heated anodized aluminum plate using encaustic pigment sticks, brushes and other utensils, and then transfer the images to a piece of paper multiple times, creating layers of beautiful translucent color. The Screen Printed Monotype Method allows printmakers the freedom to paint directly on the screen using both water soluble materials and screen printing ink itself! Participants will be able to create multiple versions of their image and transfer it to paper using transparent base (or clear ink). The possibilities are endless!
