2022 California Society of Printmakers Artist in Residence

THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR CSP MEMBERS ONLY

For the 2022 CSP Residency season, we will be doing individual applications and announcing host sites and projects individually. If you have previously received a residency, please wait three years before applying again.

Juried by host: In Cahoots Residency, Petaluma, California

CALENDAR:
Project submissions due June 24, 2022
Selected artist will be notified by July 8, 2022
The residency at In Cahoots Residency will occur August 8–20, 2022

What is the CSP Artist in Residence?:
The California Society of Printmakers presents a variety of short residency opportunities for current CSP members. Selections will be made by host printmakers.

What areas of Printmaking can I apply to pursue?:
In Cahoots Residency is a traditional live-in residency in which the selected CSP resident will live on site and make work freely over a two week period, August 8–20, 2022. Applicants can propose etching (copper, ferric), monoprint, and relief printing on the Takach etching press (40 x 72 press bed) or Conrad 36 x 54 etching press, as well as book art projects in the bindery. For this session, the letterpresses are not available. Residency time will include 10 hours of mentorship/instruction.

In Cahoots Residency provides housing and studio space to both emerging and professional artists in a variety of mediums, with a focus on artist books, letterpress, printmaking (etching, relief, monoprint), writing, and collaboration. The residency hosts from three to five artists at a time. Residents are provided private individual guest houses (with kitchens and full bathrooms) and 24-hour access to the spacious shared studios. Residents do their own cooking. For those without a car, rides to the grocery store/supply store and weekly group field trips (to places such as Sonoma or the Pacific coast) are provided free of charge. More information can be found at incahootsresidency.com.

ELIGIBILITY:
CSP Artist and Student members. Membership must be current for the last three years or since joining CSP if less than three years.

ENTRIES:
There is a $25 submission fee to submit proposals with up to 10 images. All images must be of work completed within the last three years.

Application deadline: June 24, 2022
Application is via the CSP Submittable account.

More on the Juror:
Macy Chadwick received an MFA in Book Arts and Printmaking from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia and assisted book artist Julie Chen at Flying Fish Press in Berkeley for three years. After fifteen years of teaching at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco Art Institute, and San Francisco Center for the Book, Macy decided to pursue her dream of directing a residency and founded In Cahoots Residency in 2018. This dream combines her passions of working alongside other artists, hosting people in a creative space, and collaboration. Along with directing the residency, Macy continues to create artists books and limited edition prints in her separate art studio which is onsite at the residency. Her work is widely collected and is in prominent collections in the U.S. and abroad, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Yale University Special Collections, and the Jack Ginsberg Collection in South Africa.
