Elemental Landscapes is an invitational exhibition of 13 printmakers. The project was developed through a Membership Engagement Grant from the California Society of Printmakers. This grant was a way of connecting and working with the CSP membership during the pandemic of 2020–22.
I began this project by looking through CSP members’ portfolios on the CSP website. The prints selected in many ways all tell related stories, and loosely share a perspective on our natural world.
The print-work presented here can be categorized as elemental; abstracted nature with a close up gaze. Landscapes with a focus on the specific; object oriented, textural, weathered, geometric, and molecular. This collection of artwork converses across varied pieces. Shapes, textures, forms and colors, depict forests and sea. Dwellings shake, diamonds spin, spirits rise, and elements are unearthed. Our environments shape life, and the forces of nature are consequential. Each print shows an instance in a story, viewed all together, an epic tale.
