About the Artist

About the Artist: I am a graduate of Boston University School of Fine Arts with an MFA, and a professor of art at Solano College. I have exhibited extensively in galleries and museums nationally, including several one person exhibitions in the San Francisco Bay area and a group exhibition with Maltese artists here and in their country.

My art work takes many forms: acrylic collages, mixed media, large charcoal drawings that incorporate pastels and paint, and ceramic sculpture. Ambiguity of space, a merging of the positive and negative, is a dominant part of both the form and content of all my work.

Eight years ago I began to explore the potentials of linoleum reduction process. The physical act of carving the background away to produce an image and the layering of colors are expressive qualities I value highly. My goal in linoleum reduction printing is not to create an edition of duplicate images, but to experiment with the blending and layering of colors to produce, each time, a unique image.

Monuments and the mystical continue to be the focus of my work. Meditation and Tibetan Buddhism are an increasingly important part of my journey. The most recent images are the result of visits to Buddhist sites in Nepal, Bhutan, India, and China. The meditator and the creative artist share some of the same concerns. Both face the unknown knowingly, take part in the blurring of boundaries, and risk a response that they cannot predict or control.
