| About the Artist: |
My prints and paintings have evolved over the last 18 months from the figurative to the abstract. During the previous nine years, I depicted exclusively animals in a style I call Animal Expressionism. Since 9-11-01, abstract landscapes of the mind coupled with the element of surprise have dominated my work. I approach neither canvas nor printing plate with a preconceived image. Rather, each image evolves on the spot, reflecting the feelings of the day. Everything in my life finds its way into my work. And since I never clean my printing plates, I never know how a print will appear until it is pulled. The accumulation of pigment and debris on the plate engender unexpected texture and color. Currently growth of a new visual vocabulary is occurring. I call it Internal Expressionism. It allows for experimentation as well as serendipity. Understanding ahead of time where my work will take me is unimportant. Allowing the work to mature in directions I might never approach otherwise is preeminent.
