| About the Artist: |
Discovering this exciting process of Clay Monotype evolved from my experiences with Ceramics and other types of Printmaking. My Clay Monotypes are intuitive & spontaneous. They depict abstractions of feelings and personal experiences & encourage my process of self discovery.
The Clay Monotype process uses liquid clay slips as the ink. The slips are colored with inorganic compounds that are used in ceramics and with organic pigments, used in fine art paints. Slips are applied to a 1/4" leather hard clay slab, using various techniques. A thin layer is printed or hand transferred from the clay slab to a non-woven fabric substrate. Each clay print is archival and one of a kind.
In the Linocut Process, my drawings of Primitive Art subjects are drawn on linoleum, in reverse & carved with woodcarving tools. Oil-based inks are applied to the linocut plate with a brayer or brush & transferred to dampened, fine art paper, with an Etching Press. The linocut plate is used for a series of prints, often varied in color.
Since receiving a BA in Art in 1967, I have been teaching publicly & privately and creating artwork. I began my Clay Art Studio in 1987 and have shown and sold my artwork throughout CA in art exhibitions & galleries. I teach Ceramics with the Alameda Adult Education at Mastick Senior Center.
In all this time, I remain humble to the realization that art is about the process of creating more than it is about the finished product. |
