About the Artist

About the Artist: Plants and birds are persistent images in my printmaking. I am interested in their myths and origins, and the meeting and clashing of disparate worlds which commenced during the Age of Exploration.

Tulips are a symbol of martyrdom in their native Persia. Pomegranates, legendary in Greek, Jewish, and Persian cultures, are the namesake of the city Granada, which in 1492 fell from Muslim rule in the "Reconquista" of Spain. Layers of meaning and symbolism intrigue me as much as these subjects' inherent beauty.

My prints are made with etched copper plates, using hard ground, soft ground, white ground, and aquatint. I often use monoprint techniques as well, rolling and/or brushing layers of color onto the copper plate, then wiping ink off with a rag or brush. The paper is run through the press one to four times as I continue adding layers of color.

I've been printmaking since 2006 and live in the Monterey Bay area.
