About the Artist

About the Artist: My images often begin with an idea that results in a body of work created over a period of time. This group of "Psychic Portraits" began over 25 years and I am still adding new portaits.

In 1982, I inherited an eclectic collection of china cups from two eighty year old sisters. The sisters, Etta and Nellie, acquired these cups from local auctions and antique shops on there many trips by rail across the country.

I began to wonder who the original owners of these very individual and some, quite quirky cups were. This was the beginning of a series I call "Reading Tea Leaves."

Is it possible for an individual to leave an imprint on an object after they are gone? I sought the help of a psychic to see if these cups could be "read." She "read" three or four cups at a time in different sessions spread over several weeks, now over many years.

I recorded the interesting words and visual pictures in my notebook from these sessions. These words in combination with the colors and designs on china cups provided a wonderful start to what I imagined to be the psycic portraits of each of these individuals.
