When we found a woman sleeping in our hotel bed at two a.m. in Mexico City, my first question, "why is she sleeping with the light on?" What a sight! Visual, mysterious, and just right for my work.
Over a long journey in time, my imagery has changed but not these basic psychological and visual concerns. It changed with the decades and with our moves across country. It is essentially autobiographical.
Born in 1925 in Chicago to European parents from a town called Auschwitz in Austria Hungary (now Poland). I have been fortunate to have the advantages this country offered with the shadow of Europe to remind me of my good luck. I found my mentors in modern European of the first half of the 20th Century. |
